EDUCATION AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF TARANAKI BOARD. A the monthly meeting of the Parana H Education Board, held at New Plymouth yesterday, there were present: Mr. S. G. Smith M.P. (chagrin an), Canon J. L. A. Ivayll and Messrs. P. J. H. White, A. Lees. W. H .Tones and H. Dempsey. TURUTURTJ’S NEEDS. “There are 154 children and the rooms are all overcrowded,” wrote the Turuturu committee when asking for another room. The board decided again to refer the request to the dx-ncit-ment. , GENERAL, The department wrote that the - jl i gestion from the South Taranaki vSehool Committees’ Association that dental clinics should he esta >•.: mod at the country schools should ne_ reared to the Director-General of_ Health. Urging on the department that each of the five schools mentioned vere of equal importance, the board decided to rearrange the beginning of the list of Works in or dor of urgency ns follow: Fitzroy. Tikorangi. Opua (budding and site), Manaia (extra accommodation), Central and Turuturu (extra room). Tt was decided to ask for the appointment- of two extra ' nial nurses for the Taranaki district. . Schools at Tongaporutu and Piopiotea west are to he closed, and the Waikiri school removed xo Wharoorino. TEACHERS APPO MTED. Appointments of teachers were m ide as follow:- —To Kiri, head teacher, L. J. Nobbs ; Finnertv, assist mt, bliss D. C. McKennev ; Stratford. ,assn 1 art. Dean, coox.vy inslmotress. REPORTS. The manual supervisor bD R G. Riddling) reported that the woodwork classes were running satisfactorily in .all centres. Tlie architect (Mr. C. FL Moore) reported that- the remodelling of the infant- school at- Stratford was nearing completion and it was hoped soon to have the children hack in their proper classroom again. He expressed appreciation of the attitude of the committee and staff in respect- to this work. The Matemateonga moveable school had been moved to Ommia making the second time this building _ has been shifted to a new site owing to the attendance dropping. The new school at Ngaere was living started immediately.
