SAVAOEDOM IN HAWERA

REVIEW OF THE YEAR. ANNUAL' MEETING OF "CLUB. The affairs of the Hawera Savage Club were reviewed at the annual meeting of members held last night at the Wharepuni, the ariki, Savage W. 'S. Gibson, presiding over a good attendance of members. ; The report stated that the accounts reflected the policy of the council which had been to return to members the maximum possible value for the annual subscription paid. The expenditure closely approximated the past year and that a liberal depreciation on property had been made. The position of the club’s finances was very sound. . The membership was 124, as against last year’s total of 137. The chief events of last year were the annual visit of the Nui Paremata tribe and of the Hanawatu tribe, both of which were much enjoyed. It was recommended that the visit b e returned during the coming season. The Christmas Cheer Concert had been one of the successes of the season and had enabled £6O to be disbursed. Thanks were accorded to those leading members who found that they were unable to continue in office, and appreciation of their good work was expressed. Thanks were also due to those performers who had given of their best for the pleasure of their fellow members. • ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted:-y Ariki, Savage W. S. Gibson; rangatira>. Savage W. A. Spragg; tohungas, Savages J. E. Campbell, W. G. Simpson, W. P. McAnerin: council, Savages Rod Syme, W. J. Woollett, R. Henderson, _J. L. Callaghan; Savages Strachan, Craig, and Goodwin retain their seats on the council; secretary, Savage H. A. Morgan; treasurer, Savage E. R. S. Dale; musical director, left to council to fill; honorary auditor, Savage Suisted. GENERAL. Savage Viekridgc suggested that in place of part of the usual musical programme at koreros an address or lecture be given, and he undertook to submit a list of names of men who would assist in this direction. Savage Ollerenshaw suggested the building up of a library of music and Savage Callaghan the holding of an annual picnic during the off-season.
