LAKE DIVE.

ALPINE CLUB S TRAMP. ■Members of the Alpine Club spent yesteircla.-" in a. tramp to Lake Dive from Dawson Palis. The weather was excellent and the visibility good, while the “going” was much less strenuous than expected. The party, 25 in number, led by Mr Pookes,. of Stratford, ileft Dawson Falls about 9.30 a.m. and gradually made an ascent along the western slopes until I they reached an altitude of about 4500 feet, whence they descended to the lake. The view wais beautiful! and picturesque. The bike is about 80 yards across by about 350 wards long, and some of the party swam across, finding the water quite temperate. The lake, however, is not deep, and swimmers left a. trail of mud behind. In view of the liberation of trout by the members of the Acclimatisation Society about a year ago, members of the warty took careful note to see. if the fish liad become acclimatised. They, however, could see no traces of any trout, and it i!s their opinion that the fish would not thrive because the water is very still. and the lake lias a muddy bottom. The five miles was covered in about three hours, and, after a short spell of an hour and a half, the return journey was commenced at about 2.30 p.m.. the hostel being reached about 6 o’clock.
