MANAIA TOWN BOARD.
ADMINISTRATIVE WORK. MEETING OF COMMISSIONER, The monthly meeting of the: Manaia Town Boa,rd was held last evening. There were present Commissioners H. Mead (chairman.), A. H. Yarrow, C. Hansen, W. H. Robinson, W. Winter, H. Symmons, and A. J. Christie. The foreman (Mr J. A. Barrie) reported that the principal work of the month had been banking on the South Road and street cleaning. A new culvert had been placed and two water connections made. The tanks had been cleaned and all sewers and dead ends flushed. Four new (lamps were put on. Applications received from the secretary of the Manaia Municipal Fire- Brigade (Mr W. J. Rudd) and the- secretary of the Waincite Plains Public Library (Mr W. Vincent) were defetricd for further consideration.
In compliance with a- -iequest received from the secretary (Mr J. A. G. Cosgrove) the- Manaia Hibernian and District Sports Club was granted permission under the usual terms' to use the Domain for the ,sp-out® meeting on Alai ch 23. A request received from Mr D. Fitzgerald for the connection of water to-iii-s property in the- board’s aiea was referred to- the chairman.
SUTHERLAND ROAD DEPUTATION A deputation from residents of the Sutherland Road, consisting of Messrs J. Russell, W. Ellison and S. French, waited on the board with reference to the road water main which is connected with the town supply. It was explained that the pressure was between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and thesei were hours when supply was most required. The deputation asked whether arrangements could he made to make an improvement.
After discussion the foreman was instructed to inspect the whole of the system in the area with a view to discovering possible causes of the lowering of pressure. SCHOOL COMMITTEE REQUEST.
Messrs A. Gamlin and Edwards formed a deputation from the Manaia School Committee and were accompanied by Mr. A. Lees of the Taranaki Education Board. The deputation requested that the portion of Taurangaaika Street between Patukukupa and Karaka Streets which was used as a stock route be cleared. The thoroughfare, it was explained, separated portions of the grounds used by the children and its use for the traffic of stock was regarded as a potential danger to the children. It was pointed out that an adjoining municipal reserve could he used as the stock route. On the motion of Cr. Yarrow seconded bv the chairman, the' Board agreed to allow the road to be closed temporarily, conditionally that the necessary fencing be arranged by the school committee and a nominal rental of £1 annually be contributed. FINANCE.
A financial statement tabled showed receipts totalling £1037 15s 2d during February. Details were as follow : Rates.—l92B-29, general, £304 14s 2d; Main South Road, £3B 16s 4d; hospital and charitable aid. £3B 16s 4d ; water and sewerage, £553 13s Od ; 1927-28. £3 10s. Rents, Hall £53 os; water suppnlv £4; bowsers £6 6s; reserve, etc., £23 3s; total, £B6 14s. Miscellaneous, dangerous goods, li-,-puces. £7; cemetery. £4; crockery hire 1.0 s; total. £ll 10s. Accounts totalling £950 Os 4d were passed for payment.
