SOLICITOR DEFRAUDED OF £5. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 7. Robert Vernon, aged 31, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for obtaining from Mr. Hall Skelton, a solicitor, £5 by falsely representing that he was a land agent ancl had sold a farm for £4750
The chief detective stated that Vernon made a habit of taking down solicitors by telling similar tales. Counsel said that the accused had had no money and the temptation was too great for him. Times were" very hard.
The Magistrate (Mr. Levien): Who for, the solicitors ? (Laughter.) “For everybody,” replied counsel. “Solicitous don’t fall as easily for £5,” interjected Mr. Allan Moody, who was in court. “Some might, but not all.”
