AUROA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) AUROA SPORTS MEETING. A' well attended meeting of the Auroa Sports Committee -was "held at the Auroa Hail! on Tuesday evening, Mr W. .T. Bradford presiding. The seeretnrv (Mr F. Area) gave a brief resume of arrangements made to date. Good response- was made to his canvassing and cash and trophies to the value of over £4O was in hand. cleaT of the £32 balance from last year’s sports. The programme committee had drawn up a. list of 21 events similar to that of last year, but in most cases the prize money was practically doubled, for it represented £75 in cash and prizes against less than £4O for last year. Several minor events as putting the shot, tossing the caber, relav. and committeemen ’s races were added to the programme at the meeting. The electron of further officials to control the meeting resulted as follows: Han di capper, Mr T. A. Hanson; starters, Messrs C. Rye and «T. O’Dcn; judges, Messrs J. Doegan, .T. A. Hansen, T. W. Ring. and A'. F. Kruse: track stewards, Messrs G. Eliason, .Tack. Tos and Tames McCarthy, and W. Bradford; field event stewards, Messrs T. Syme, M. Landers and A. F. Kruse; gate stewards, Me-SSTS T. Blair and W. Brown: protest committee, the chairman. the secretary, and Messrs T. A". Hansen. T. O’Dea and C. Rye: sideshows. Messrs T. Bigham, T. Wasley, Greenbanks, and C. Benton. It was agreed to- accept the Anroa Pipe Band’s offer to play at -the sports; and Cobum’s orchestra for the dance.

The president and secretary will arrange -a meeting of ladies willing to assist with refreshments at a date suitable to the ladies.

A further meeting will be called after nominations have been -received to make final arrangements. The committee- is- to meet on the grounds next Saturday to improve the track. MUSICAL SOCIETY.

Arrangements are -well in hand for the musical society’s social and dance on Wednesday evening. It is hoped that -good support will be forthcoming as the profits will be in, aid of the hall funds which are very low at present. BOWLING CLUB. The local club is sending two rinks to Manaia on the occasion of the Auckland bowlers’ visit, but only one rink will play the visitors. The other is it) meet a Manaia rink. During the week-end an Auroa rink re-captured the Hawken Stars from a Manaia rink for the second successive game. Mr F. Kilpatrick, for the second successive year, has won the singles championship of the Auroa Club and will meet shortly the other western division champions at Opunake.
