GARDEN PARTY.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. In order to provide funds in aid of Dr. Barnado’s hospital homes, a most successful garden party was held at the picturesque grounds of Mr and Mrs H. T. Lovell, South Road, Hawera, yesterday, when a good number of people were present. Mrs Lovell, Mrs W. G. Simpson and Miss Tait acted as hostesses, and were assisted by several young ladies and members of the Ilawera Rangers. During the afternoon games and competitions were indulged in, and orchestral selections were contributed by Mr and Mrs A. Bonetti and Mrs Graham. The visitors were conducted around the beautiful grounds by Mrs Lovell, and the attractive ferneries and dugout nookeries were the subject of much favourable comment, the many beautiful blooms and ferns being the chief attraction. Afternoon tea and icecreams were dispensed by a ladies’ committee. Although the unfavourable weather had an adverse effect upon the attendance, the function proved a great financial success, as the donations and cash received amounted to £2O 10s, a tribute to the untiring efforts of the organisers.
