DOMINION CHAMPION.
M ILE AND THREE MILES RUNNER
ATTRACTION AT HAWERA
Patrons of athletics in the Hawera. district are to be given the opportunity of witnessing the New Zealand distance running oh amp ion, J. W. Savidon, of Auckland, in action next week. Resulting from representations opened by Mr L. I. Marter (vice-president of the Haweia Amateur Athletic Club), when at the recent Dominion championship meeting, advice. was received! yesterday that Savidon would visit Hawera for the electric light sports to be held next Wednesday. Though not extended in either race, Savidson successfully defended his titles as the Dominion mile and three miles champion at this year’s championships last Monday and Saturday week in better than standard time. He won the mile comfortably by 20 yards in 4min 20 1-5-secs. and the three miles by over half a Jap in 14min 59 3-oseos. The latter time was 20 2-ssecs better than New Zealand standard time, and th© mile time was four-fifths of a second faster than the standard. He is at present at the top of his form, and is regarded a,s probably the best distance amateur runner in either New Zeaalud or Australia to-day. With closer eomnetition he' would have certainly improved. considerably upon the time's lie actually recorded at tile Do- ■ mi nion chain p i ousliips.
