The Commonwealth and Dominion liner, Port Alma, which has twelve passengers and a full cargo of wool, dairy produce and frozen meat aboard, was held up at Wellington yesterday for several hours owing to> the chief cook leaving the ship, when she was ready to sail. Her lines were “signalled up,” the pilot was .aboard and the ship was ready to' start on her voyage lor London when it was reported that the chief cook was missing. It was stated that he was seen to go ashore shortly before noon and was driven away in a private motor-car which was waiting on the wharf. A substitute was scon found and a warrant, issued for the arrest of the missing man, and alter a delay of Jive hours the Port Alma put to sea. It is understood that the whereabouts of the missing cook are known to the police authorities.
