ENTERTAINMENTS.

GRAND THEATRE, TO-NIGHT

‘ ‘ THE TRAIL OF ’9B. ’ ’

“The Trail of ’98,” the big attraction which is to be screened at the Grand Theatre to-night, is the stor-<r of a great adventure, and is a very fine film indeed. It deals with a. tragic struggle against the forces /of nature and the greed for gold during the famous Klondike gold rush, when Dawson City fell in blazing ruins and when, avalanches overwhelmed hundreds of prospectors, only the very hardiest prospectors prevailing as a result of indomitable spirit and courage. In.the cast are many fauj/ous players, including Dolores del Rio, Emily Fitzroy and Polly Moran in the principal feminine roles, and Ralph Forbes, Karl Dane, Tully Marshall, Harry 'Carey, .George Cooper,. Tenen Holtz, Russell Simpson, and others playing the male leads. The story told is a powerful one, and aided by many rugged settings, with. snoiw and ice in abundance, very little is left to the imagination of the audience. Two other pictures are included on the programme, and they are New . Zealand Gazette, arranged by the Publicity Department, which includes views ,of the Governor-General opening Parliament, steer riding in Taranaki, motor boat racing on the Wanganui River, girls’ athletic sports at Auckland and other items of interest; and also the first chapter of the third series of “The New Greater Collegians.” “The Trail of ’9B” will be screened ac the Opera House again to-morrow (Friday) at 2 and 8 p.m.. OPERA iHOUSE, TO-NIGHT. " ' ALLAN WILKIE COMPANY. Mr Wilkie will be welcome again with his splendid Shakespearean Company to-night, when he plays “Macbeth,” at the 'Opera House, before opening a long season at His Majesty’s Thearte, Auckland. Allan Wilkie is the only manager who has been honoured by His Majesty the King for his work in the Shakespearean field, and it is significant of the character of the man that each time his company comes to the Dominion it is better than ever before. To-night Mr Wilkie introduces some splendid new artists from England to the Hawera audience, who will also re : new acquaintance with many old favourites. “Macbeth” is a happy choice indeed for the one night’s season, as the play abounds in wonderful acting opportunities. Not a dull moment delays the action of the play from the time of the ris e of the curtain to the, weird incantations of the three witches, to its fall upon the death of Macbeth at the hands of Macduff. Two magnificent scenes of drama which no one should miss witnessing are the courtyard scene where the murder of the King is discovered, and the sleepwalking scene of Lady Macbeth, to be enacted by that charming actress, Miss Hunger Watts. A newcomer to the company who has already earned laurels in England where he was for some , time leading actor to iSir.;F. -R. Benson, is Mr Alexander Marsh, who plays Banquo in *‘/Macbeth. ”
