TALES TOLD TO THE MATRON. FORTUNE-TELLERS FINED. \By Telegraph—.fleas AssociaUoh.; AUCKLAND, Feb. 1, Four women and one man were charged at tile Police Court to-day with telling fortunes. Tile police matron described a visit she paid to Annie M, Rond, professionally known as “Madame Maria,” who told fortunes by tile crystal method. The latter siaid the visitor was., going to be married to a good-looking gentueinan. Defendant said she obtained all her powers from the gypsies. Matilda Oauider pleaded! guilty to a similar charge. Ciaude Dolores got the matron to write her questions on paper. He told her she tv as going to marry a man with his hair parted on the side, and she should not speculate in gold, but in oil! shares.
May Lyons -told the matron she was going into the drapery business and would make a lot of money. Alary Sales, the mother of fifteen children, also had a mistaken idea that she oould tell fortunes.
Mr McKean, S.M., imposed fines of £5 to £3. with alternative imprisonment. He subsequently reinstated the first case for re-hearing.
