The Senate lias adopted Mr. Harris amendment for the first deficiency appropriation Bill giving an additional 24,009,01)9 dollars for prohibition enforcement. The appropriations committee had approved 25,000,000 dollars. The Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. A. W. Mellon, protested that more than 13,000,000 dollars had previously been appropriated. The Senate then adopted an amendment giving the President-elect, Mr. H. Hoover, 250,000 dollars for an in vestigation of prohibition enforcement. Both measures must now be passed by the House of Representatives.
