Although the nominations for the Cup only number 18, tnere is material tor a hrst-ciass race, and with such proved ones as Rapine, Star God, Hynanna, Yoma, Oratrix, Bright Glow and Vertigern in the field highclass racing may be confidently anticipated. The open sprint on the first day is disappointing numerically, but among the dozen entered there are several speedy customers who will make the event very open. The Nolan Gold Cup (hack conditions) promises to provide an interesting _ contest, and at this juncture there is nothing outstanding among the 15 entrants, they being a very even lot. Weights for the first day will be published on Friday, January 25, and the acceptances for the first day close on Monday, January 28, at 8.30 p.m. j
