SALVATION ARMY.
NEAY HAAYERA LEADER. CORPS AYELCOME GFVEN. Welcome 'greetings to Co-mmatnidant H. Adams l , the newly appointed officer in charge of thei Hawera Salvation Army Corps, and also to Mrs Adams and family, were extended prior to the evening service at ithc citadel yesterday. The proceedings were led iby Ser-geant-Major J. Dawdle, who formally introduced the new commandant and gave him a cordial welcome toi the corps, tha sergeamt-major also expressing the -hope that the commandant ’a work in Hawera- would be crowned with the greatest measure of success possible.
The remarks of the- sergeant-major were endorsed by Brother J. Yearbury, who also spoke on behalf of the corps, and by Brother B. Zins'li, whoi spoke on behalf of the Young People’s Corps. An official welcome, to which tho speakers invited include the Mayor (Mr E. A. Poc-ey) and representatives of Hawera churches, is -to bo extended -to Commaindata-t and Airs Adams at the citadel to-morrow (Tuesday) evening. Airs Adams, who preceded the' commandant in- replying to last evening’s welcome, expressed the hope that the number of adherents would increase a!nd the .'blessings of the' coops’ work be extended. Her .thanks to .the speakers were supplemented by similar expressions from the’ commandant, who also voiced thanks to Mrs; Haiftchard for the gift of a birthday chair to the primary division of the- Sunday School. Inspiring addresses were delivered at both the morning and evening services by Commandant Adams, who, at the -folrmer service, took ais his subject the question-, “ Can. a man live a holy life?” and in the evening spoke on ‘‘The Blood Religion.” -
