SCHOOL AFFAIRS.

At a meeting of the Normanby School Committee last night there were present: Messrs A. E. Spratt (chairman), T. Beeton (secretary), E. Peach, T. Pickering, and T. Evans. An apology was received from Mr. W. Gane.

It was left to the chairman to procure disinfectant and a spray pump. The question of keeping the school grounds in order was held over till next meeting.

The secretary reported that after paying for prizes and all other expenses there would be over £4 in hand from the proceeds of the school concert.—lt was decided that the balance be given to the picnic fund. Mr. Evans reported that the cost of material for school paths to date was as follows: Bitumen £ls os, chips £7 4s, shingle £l. 7s 6d, and another £3 worth of shingle would be required. The wages would amount to £B, making a total of £34 16s 6d. A letter was received from the Taranaki Education Board granting leave of absence to Miss Holley, who was still an inmate of the Hawera hospital. The board also reported that Miss I. E, Wells had been appointed a teacher at Normanby for the ensuing year. • It was decided to write to the hoard concerning the rough state in which the grounds had been left by its workmen, and asking that the board l'eplace the concrete which had been destroyed. The secretary was instructed to write to the Town Board asking if it would asphalt the fcotpatli in front of the monument for the full length of the stone fence. The secretary reported that all arrangements for the picnic, which was to be held at New Plymouth, were well in hand. PERSONAL. Mr. E. Mcßeth js an inmate of Hawera Hospital, suffering from the after effects of influenza.
