NEW PLYMOUTH MEETING.

SECOND DAY’S RESULTS. (By Telegraph.—From Our Own Reporter.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 27. Dull, though fine, weather ruled for the opening of the second day’s programme of the Taranaki Jockey Club’s Christmas meeting. The first race was presented before what constituted a big attendance for the second day. The drying wind of the morning took the surplus moisture from the track, which showed good condition, with springy turf. The results were as under; FITZROY HANDICAP. Of 135 sovs. Seven furlongs.

The public commenced right by making Owairaka and Calamine first and second preferences in the opening event, the former carrying 360 more. There was good support for Fortalice. From a good start the early leaders were Patrolet, Owairaka, Fortalice, Black Odin, and after half a mile they wore Fortalice, Owairaka, Black Odin. Entering the straight Owairaka and Calamine were just in front of Fortalice, Iciogne, and Patrolet. Finishing on, Owairaka won easily by two and a half lengths from Calamine, with Iciogne half ai length back, just clear of Fortalice. Then came Patrolet, Black Odin, and Miss Pakake. Time, 1.28.

Llano re’s convincing victory in the Maiden on the first day made her a sultry favourite in the Electric Juvenile, with a margin of £390 from Airway. Golden Flower was neglected, and carried nearly £BOO less than the favourite. Valpro was first out of the barrier from Boundary, Airway, Golden Flower and Fancy Boy, but Llanore made a strong bid after the first furlong and led into the straight with a bare- margin from Airway and Valpre, attended by Golden Flower and Fancy Boy. A dash from the half distance provided a thrilling finish, Llanore getting home by a nose: from Golden Flower, with Valpre only half a head back third, and less than a length in front ofAirway. Fancy Boy was fifth, and was attended by Potency, Royal Finance and Boundary in a bunch. Time, 1.2 3-5. SUMMER I HACK HANDICAP. Of 160 sovs. Six furlongs.

A couple of spills marked the Summer Handicap, Egeria falling about--100 yards from the start and Rillet losing her rider , when three furlongs from home. Neither rider was injured. Gold Dawn was another pronounced favourite with £430 more than Partial Eclipse, which carried £6O more than Lady Quex. The last-named, with Rillet, was first out of the barrier, and with three- furlongs gone the pair led Gold Dawn and Partial Eclipse. Luminary was out of the picture when her rider was unseated, and Lady Quex led into the straight four lengths- clear of Gold Dawn. Partial Eclipse and Monsogne. Galloping easily, Lady Quex won by five lengths, while in a great -struggle Gold Dawn took the vacancy by a short head from Partial Eclipse, with Monsogne close up. followed by Greenacre, Jokeform and Luminary* Time, 1.14 3-5.
