WESTFIELD MARKETS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.'} AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. At Westfield, to-day a heavy yarding of beef came forward. Bidding was somewhat erratic, and prices. for ox remained on about a level with last week’s prices. Cow and heifer beef was also yarded in large numbers, and sold up to late rates. Prime heavy cows and heifers mad© £lO 10s to £lO 15s. Extra choice- ox sold to 42s per 1001 b, choice and prime 38s to 41s, just killable 35s to 37s 6d, prime young cow and heifer beef 35s to 375, just killable 33s to 34s 6d.
Sheep. —A heavy yarding of sheep came forward, and comprised mostly good lines of well finished wethers. Prime heavy wethers made 29s 9A to 32s 6d, extra heavy prime wethers (shorn) 32s 6d, heavy prime 31s, medium 30s, light and- unfinished 28s, heavy prime ewes 24s 3d, lighter 22s 9d, other ewes 20s, prime heavy ewes 20s to 24s 3d, lighter ewes 18s 9d to 19s 6d.
Lambs. —A heavy yarding of spring lambs came forward, which, sold under spirited bidding at prices in excess: of last, week’s rates. Heavy prime lamb made £1 9s 3d, medium £1 Bs, light £1 6s. Pigs sold under/ better competition, baconers being" very firm at recent rates, with porkers dearer than last week. Heavy baconers made £2 18s to £3 3s, heavy porkers £2 to £2 4s, medium porker's £2 10s to £2 17s, medium and light porkers £1 14s to £1 19s; light baconers £2 2s to £2 &s. WOOL, HIDE AND SKIN SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report having held its monthly sale at Stratford, on December 18, when to a fairly representative bench of buyers they submitted a. catalogue comprising approximately 45 bales wool, 656 sheepskins, I 989 hides, two casks and 49 tins talI low, and a quantity of horse and cow- ) hair. The undermentioned prices were | obtained: Wool.—Crossbred fleece (coarse, me- ! dium ancl fine) from. 121 d to 14a per I lb, hoggets’ 13id to 14£d, lambs’ 16-Id to 16fd, dead lid, crutchings 7ld to 9^d, locks and pieces 5d to 9Jd, black fleece 9Jd, Southdown 183 d. Sheepskins (dry).—Crossbred pelts lOd to 2s Id each, three-quarter woolled (dead) 5s lOd half woolled 3s 6d to 7s 2d, full woollled 9s 2d to 10s sd, double fleece 12s Id, hoggets’ 3s 7d to 9s 3d, lambs’ 5s 2d. Sheepskins (salted). —Crossbred pelts from 2s 5d to 4s 9cl each, half woolled 6s, three-quarter to full woolled 10s Id to 12s 2d, hoggets’ 7s 6d to 9s Sd, lambs’ 4s. Hides ancl Calfskins.—Slinks. 6d each, calfskins (cut) from 4s 7d to to 5s lOd, cut and slippy 3s lOd, slippy 3s lid, sound 4s 6d to 6s 9c], cowhides (average 341 b) 25s Bd, average 441 b 30s lid, average 541 b 39s sd, cut (average 341 b) 23s sd, oxhides (average 481 b) 29s 3d, average 641 b 54s Bd, yearlings (sound, average 261 b) 20s 7d, cut (average 191 b) 12s Bd, slippy 7s 3d. Horsehair.—From lid to 21 Jd per lb, eowtail hair lOd per lb, cowtails 18d per dozen. Tallow.—ln tins from 12s to 26s 6d per owt, in casks 275. WAVERLEY SALE. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson report ,a moderate yarding of sheep at Wavea'lev sale 011 Friday. There was a particular- j lty heavy demand for sheep, a Uine of 4tooth: wethers bringing 31s.
