AGRICULTURE IN SCHOOLS.
CUTHBERT-TiSCH SHIELDS. OHANGAI SECOND ON LIST. The Cuthbert Shield for agricultural work iii schools of grade 3A and upwards has been won this year by Mangorei Consolidated, while, the Tisch Shield has been awarded to Kiore, as the ’ best school from grades 0 to 2. Certificates of merit will be given the schools at Ohangai and Okaiawa. Reporting to the Taranaki Education Board yesterday, the senior agricultural instructor, Mr. R. G. Ridling, said the awards had been made on the same standard of working as last year, namely, arrangement of grounds 50, care of ground 50, indoor work 50, experimental work 50, value of instruction 50, total 250. In tlie following details concerning tlie first ten schools in grade 3a and upwards marks are shojvn respectively for arrangement, care, indoor work, experimental work, instructional value and total:—
Lower Mangorei, (Mr. M. Goldsbury 227; Ohangai, (Mrs.'M. Sangster) 226; Okaiawa, (Mr. C. Evetts) fifth' 225; Ararata, (Airs. M. sixth 221; Awatuna, (Mr. C. L. Arthur) seventh 221; Riverlea, (Miss M. Morecraft) ninth 218; Matapu, (Mrs. M. Russell) tenth 216. In grades 0 to 2 Whakamara (Air. H. Kibblewliite) was fourth with 220, Makaka fifth with 219, Mokoia sixth with 217 and Mata eighth with 214.
