(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOWN: BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the Town Board held hast night there were present: Commissioners C.. J. Preston (chairman), P. Leydon and A. Hills. An apology was received from Cr. A. Galloway. A letter was received from the engineer of the Main Highways Board containing instructions which should be carried when forwarding tar or bitumenous materials for samples. The secretary of the Taranaki Local Bodies Association ivrote forwarding copies of the minutes of the last quarterly meeting and istating that the executive wished to obtain information from each local body as to whether it would agree to joint purchase of bitumen for next season’s requirements, and if so, the quantity required.—The clerk was instructed to reply that the board’s supply would be ordered through the Hawera County Council. It was resolved to repaint the traffic notice boards near the school and place them in a more conspicuous position. The opinion was expressed by members that many motorists using this road exceeded the speed limit. A local resident -who has been allowing her oows to wander on the roads, is to be warned that if the practice does not cease she will be prosecuted. Accounts amounting to £llO 19s 3d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned. SCHOOL CONCERT. The concert which takes place tomorrow evening promises to be a great success. The children have been practising for several weeks and are very efficient in their various _ parts. The programme includes singing. _ recitation, dialogues, Highland dancing, and a sketch. As the_ proceeds are in aid of the prize fund, it is to be hoped there will be a bumper house. GIFT EVENING.

There was a large gathering at the Town Hulk last night on the occasion of the gift evening tendered to Miss Alma Antrobus and a nice assortment of useful and ornamental gifts were received. The evening “was spent in dancing, musical and vocal items, and games.
