OKAIAWA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TENNIS. The Okaiawa Tennis Club held its opening day on Saturday. The afternoon was fine and sunny, but a southerly wind was rather colder than desired. However, the large number of players, both local and visiting, had a most enjoyable time. In .the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr J. Barclay) Mr D. Johnston, a vice-president, gave a hearty welcome to the visitors., and trusted they would have a pleasant afternoon. Two Yankee tournaments, one for ladies and one for men, were played, the respective winners being Miss Joyce and Mr G. Barclay... The local ladies provided a dainty afternoon tea. CROQUET. The Johnston Button for the best break was won last week by Mrs Penny, with a break of 13. , So far the button lias changed hands every week. Mrs Penny, who has lately been playing very good croquet, has the honour ol; making the biggest break so far. FARMERS’ UNION. A meeting of the Okaiawa branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last week, when there were present: Messrs Johns (chairman), Booth (acting secretary), N. Crocker, W. Preece, E. Betts and G. Betts. A number of entries for the lucerne and root crop competitions were handed in, and it is desired that members will send in their entries as soon as possible.

The secretary was instructed to write to- Mr Deem, thanking him for the most interesting and instructive address on ensilage which he gave at Okaiawa recently.
