PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr L. S. Poison, of Hawera, while, rehearsing for his part in (the Savage Club’s concert last evening, had the. misfortune to severely strain a rib, with the result .that he was too indisposed to appear. Mr and Mrs Morgan Laurenson, of Palmerston North, who are on a short holiday visit to Hawera, are guests at the Central Hotel.
The death occurred last night of Mr Thomas Russell List, only son of Mian d Mrs T. C. List, of New Plymouth. The late Mr List, who was in his twentieth year, suffered an injury to his hand through a rifle exploding while he was on a shooting expedition on Mount Egmont last Saturday week. The .wound was attended to at the time by lone of the park rangers and Mr List made the ascent of the steep side of the Waiwakaiho Gorge to the main northern track. Upon arrival at New .Plymouth he was sent to hospital, where he continued to make good progress until Friday last, but on that day septicaemia developed and the patient’s condition became serious. ! On Monday blood tranfusions were made and the 1 right arm was amputated. ;He came through the operation well and for some hours seemed to rally, but yesterday morning his condition was low and death took place at 10.30 p.m. The late Mr List was a student at Canterbury College and during terms was in residence at College House, Christchurch. He was studying for the diploma in journalism and during the college recess he had been engaged on the staff of the “Daily News,” of which his father is proprietor. In athletics, while at the New Plymouth High School and later 'at college, he had shown much promise and he enjoyed a wide popularity among all with whom he ca.m c in contact.
