'TO Stand the Season at Commercial Stables, Hawcra, and Travel where sufficient inducement offers — The Blood Stallion SANDSTAR (18) By Sands of the Orient from Mary Heaton. SANDSTAR, foaieu 1921, is a baj T horse standing 16.2 high and is of a beautiful temper and constitution. No thoroughbred seen south of , the lino has, or had, a stouter strain of blood than Sand star. His grandsire on the male side is Rock Sand, , and on the dam’s side Bright Steel. His great grandsires were "Sanfoin” and Henry of Navarre” (sires side), and St. Simon and Pcsitano (dam’s side). These are names to conjure with and columns could be written of the performances of the progeny of the great sires mared. I SANDSTAR, during his short stay on the turf, was a successful performer, also his sire, Sands of The Orient, and his grandsire, Rock Sand, who won the Derby and St. Lcger and Two Thousand Guineas in England. Sandstar broke his fetlock joint and only raced on ten occasions, twice as a two-year-old, being unplaced, eight times as a three-year-old, being placed on every occasion, winning five, also once second and twice third. The races he won included: Kensington Handicap, Whangarei, 6 furlongs; Normanby Plate, Auckland, of 400 so vs, 1 mile; Christmas Handicap, Auckland, of 600 sovs, 1 mile; Stewards’ Handicap. Auckland, 600 sovs.; 6 furlongs; Autumn Handicap, Avondale, 600 sovs, 9 furlongs; second to j Surveyor at Taka puna in the Borough Handicap, 7 furlongs; third at Takapuna in the Ngataringa Welter, 7 furlongs; being beaten by Spoony and Rapeful; third at Te Aroha in the Hot Springs Handicap, beaten by Regent and Steel Bar. Sandstar and Bisogne are No. 18 sires, St. Evelyn being the granddam of Bisogne and the greatgraj'nddam of Sandstar. Sandstar’s first foals are now yearlings, and they point to him becoming a great sire, and sure .foa.l-getter.; ■ ' TERMS: Single Marea. 25 guineas; two or more mares, as arranged.
