SALES IN TAiRANAKI,
Newton King, Ltd., report on sales held by them during the week ended December 15 as under: —
Beef.—Supplies are becoming a little more plentiful, but the market remains steady, prices ruling being on a par with late quotations. Sales being effected as follows: Prime .heavy fat .cows up to £l3, medium weights £lO to £ll, killable sorts £8 10s to £9, prime fat heifers £l2 10s, lighter sorts £lO. Eat Sheep.—Little if any change in this section has taken plaice since our last report. Works buyers are operating steadily in the fat lamb section, no change having taken place in the prices offering, the best lines being purchased at from 28s 6d- to 30s fid, while the prices ruling for other lines range from 25s to 2:6s 6d. The open markets are practically devoid of fat sheep however, through the medium of private treaty sales for local consumption are being effected as follows: Pat wethers 31s 6d to 32s 6d, fat ewes 24s to 255.
'Stor<> Sheep.—Wo have to Teport that a strong enquiry is still in evidence for all classes in this section. Pew of any of this- class arc coming forward to the open markets, -the bulk of the sales being effected by private treaty. Forward delivery sales of both lambs and ewes are being steadily effected, prices ruling being as follows: Best m.s. lambs IBs to 21s, best back country four and five-year ewes 27s fid to 30s, ohters 24s to 265. In the open market sales have been effected as follows: Mixed age ewes in the wool, b.f. lambs at foot, £2 9s to £2 10s, two and four-tooth woolly wethers 335, m.s. hoggets 335. Store .Cattle. —String enquiry still exists for all classes in this section with insufficient offering to fulfill requirements. In the open markets male and young cattle -are conspicuous by their absence, the offerings consisting largely of store and forward cows. These are subject to spirited competition and are changing hands at rates on a par with late quotations. At our Douglas sale on Monday last 10th inst. a few small lots of station cattle changed hands at the following prices: Pour and five-year bullocks £lO 12s, three-year steers £8 11s, P.A. cows and calves £9, mixed coloured cows and calves £7 9s, store cows £5 Is to £6 13s.
Dairy Cattle. —'Small numbers of this class are still being submitted at our i fortnightly sales and anything possessing of quality is subject to keen competition. However, owing to the season being well advanced, prices have eased a little since our last report. Bulls. —The season for the use of this class is now practically closed and a number of bulls are being yarded and sold at potting rates. Prices ruling on this basis are as follow: Heavy weights up to £lO 7s fid, others £5 to £B. Pigs.—Good yardings are still in evidence for both store and weaner pigs and full clearances are being effected under keen competition. Prices ruling - being on a par with late quotations, -
