TRADE WITH RUSSIA.
POSSIBILITY OF PRIVATE AGREEMENTS. BRITISH BUSINESSMEN PROPOSE VISIT. I ii-<i frto.su AMKMiaUoii —By Electric ieieguoiL Copy rig tit.; —United Service;. LONDON. Dec. 13. There is a possibility of represen t«tive,s of licitisn (trade going to Russia at no distant date to investigate AngloR.UHsian trade. It is a curious situation, as tUe Government definitely maintains its previous attitude that it wih not consider the resumption of diplomatic relations except under (the terms stated, when relations were broken. These terms involve Russia’s initiating the question of resumption, undertaking the cessation of propaganda in the Umpire, and giving other guarantees. Contrariwise Government circles pointedly reiterate anxiety not to place obstacles in the way of legitimate trade, and .it was more or less admitted that a trade agreement could be arranged not involving a resumption of diplomatic relations. It appears that a certain section of the Conservatives, comprising the younger and more progressive 'members, "are bringing pressure to bear on the Government. It is certain that the Goverment will not officially act, but a trade agreement appears possible between private Interests. There will he no objection to this. Undoubtedly certain Cabinet members sympathise with the movement, especially those who have not become reconciled to the trade rupture.
