R.S.A. CHRISTMAS TREE.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR MONDAY" NEXT. APPLICATIONS FOR TICKETS CLOSE TO-MORROW. A meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Xmas Tree Committee was held last evening, -when reports of the chairman and various- members were submitted, and- arrangements were- further advanced. Applications for tickets were reported to .be coming in freely, a total -for over two -hundred children having (been issued to date. The opinion was expressed that many more would be received before the closing time for applications, which was fixed finally for noon, Friday. Various members of the committee also reported that offers of assistance in Cash and kind had been made and gratefully accepted, and it was generally felt that the- proposed function appealed to many rcsidenis who. were- not returned soldiers.

The members of the committee do not propose to under-estimate the amount of work, necessary to handle the huge concourse of children -and parentsand seek the whole-hearted co-opera-tion of parents in the marshalling and .handling of the children in. -preparation for the -distribution of the gifts. The matter of syrup drinks was freely diseussed, and it was finally decided toi ask parents to equip their children with drinking -vessels for the purpose. [lt was felt that this would saw© a tremendous amount of -work in cleaning up, eliminate breakages and be economical in an effort where every economy must -be studied in order that the children may get the benefit in -gifts and enjoyment. It is anticipated .that at least three hundred children will be entertained to the good things to be provided, and this the committee considered, to be very gratifying. Arrangements regarding the distribution of ice crea.m and sweets were finalised and the matter of selecting and arranging the gifts was left to working committees.
