WOMEN’S DIVISION LECTURE

j On Wedensdav afternoon 20 ladies, members of the women’s division of I the Farmers’ Union, met at the local hall with their president (Mrs. Lyndon) to listen to a. most interesting address on children’s health given by Sister Ingles, of New Plymouth, who {has a. thorough- grasp and knowledge of her subject. Tlie lecturer de_alt I with the need of parents in training their young in the importance ot cleanliness 1 , viz., •in washing then hands, before each meal, in keeping their teeth clean, not only with the brush but by eating uncooked fruity and vegetables. Stress, was laid upon the value of brown bread instead or white and the avoidance of sweets, the latter being greatly overcome by not <rivj]i<r children pocket money at school. Sister Ingles deplored the practice of sending children to school too young, and during the summer months advocated as iittle clotiling as possible foj- tlie child, which is naturally sufficiently full of life and energy to "keep itself suitably- warm. For her able address and advice Sister Ingles was accorded a. hearty vote of thanks. Mesdames Deegan and West provided a bountiful afternoon tea, which was much appreciated. The local monthly meetings of the women’s division of the Farmers’ Union will not now resume until the first Wednesday in March, when a, course of lectures on home nursing will he given by Sister Ingles, who. is to be stationed in South Taranaki, and who will prove a great acquisition, not only to all mothers seeking advice, but to the schools as well. OTHER- ACTIVITIES. Much interest is being taken in tb« forthcoming concert to be given In aid of the school piano funds by the leading talent of Eltham, and also in the Christmas, tree and fair to be held in aid of the Methodist Church.
