I SC HOOL COMMITTEE. The usual monthly meeting of the Gpunake School Committee was held on Thursday evening, those present being Messrs G. H. Hutton (chairman), A. Bay nor (secretary), C. M. Clare, 11. Walker, J\ Dalrymple. H. Davey. The headmaster (Mr. AY. H. Burgess) reported that the average attendance at the primary school was 178 and the roll number 201. In the secondary department the average attendance was 2-3 and the roll number 30. The annual examinations were about complete and disclosed a satisfactory result. Two pupils- sat for the senior national scholarship, three for public service entrance, and live for matriculation. One pupil had qualified in the teachers’ examination in August. in regard to the secondary pupils many parents had been interviewed and the names of 55 intending pupils had been obtained. Several working bees had been held in the high school grounds and good progress had been made in the levelling of the tennis and basket ball areas. Mr. Mc.l.vor bad very kindly taken the levels and bad prepared a plan.

The headmaster recommended that some provision be made warning motorists approaching the school.—lt was decided to ask the ' Automobile Association for the necessary signs. Air. H. Ashworth was appointed caretaker of the primary school. Air. Hutton was accorded a vote of thanks for the use of his car in connection with tlie vuivass for new pupils for the high school. Air. Ashworth was a warded compensation amounting to £'s in connection with the high school paddock. It was decided to arrange a break-ing-up ceremony on the 20th inst. Accounts amounting to £8 2s 4cl were passed for payment I t was decided to hold a cooking demonstration at an early date at the high school.
