Though a delicate- operation, necessitating the confinement of an injected solution to an interior vein, the new treatment for varicose veis by means of a local injection is asserted by the “Daily Mail’s” medical writer to afford a. complete cure, except in the most advanced cases. He points out that it has superseded the old method of tying veins. A solution of quinine or salicylate soda is injected hy ,an ordinary hypodermic glass syringe irritates the lining of the vein and clogs the blood effectively blocking the blood vessel. A single injection is usually sufficient and a general anaesthetic isunnecessary. The treatment is available at most London hospitals and is so popular that it has necessitated several special clinics-.
