SALE OF PICTURES
PURCHASES IN HAAVERA. There were many art enthusiasts in attendance at the AVinter Show Hall during Fast week to view the fine selection of works by artists of international: -repute, brought to Hawera by Air At. AlcGomiiick of Christchurch. Although Ala- AlcCormick did not, als as his usual custom, hold an auction sale, very good business was transacted! by private treaty. Among the most important sales were “The Last Gleam ot Day” (A. de Rrenski), at 30 guineas; ‘ ‘Til© Sunny Smile ot Alorn’ ’ (de Brenski), 30gns; “A Scottish Gen” (R. Anderson), 25gns>; “On the Ooime” (P. L. Lara)., 6gns; “At Alonaco” (B. Fietcher),* 6gns; “The Day Departerii, The Night Comiethi” (B. Fietcner), Ggns. Tnere were many other (sales of lesser value, while original etchings realised from two to eight guineas each.
