The annual meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union at Hawera was held on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs fix ley presided over a good attendance of members. Reports were received from the various branches of the work. Much regret was expressed at the resignation of Mrs Elxley, as president, owing to illhoalth, and that of Mrs. Hill, as devotional superintendent, several members speaking of their worth and the help they had given to the union. The election of officers then took place, that of president being held over till next meeting in January, the officers chosen being:—Treasurer, Mrs. Ashton; secretary, Mrs. Hayward; Press reporter, Mrs. Scpiire. Afternoon tea was served at the close of the meeting by Mesdames Ourtis and Hurrell.
