KAPONGA v. PIHAMA. Two rinks from the Kaponga Club met and defeated Pihama in a banner match at Pihama on Saturday by the narrow margin of six points. The opening game for .the ferns recently presented to the Kaponga Club by Mr O. Thurston was played at the week-end when Messrs J. .Pascoe, K. Williams, G. W. S. Bell, and J. Stevosis defeated Messrs T. Jones, J. Molls, A. J. Herbert, and. J. A. Dawson by 23 points to 20. Twenty-five heads were played. SOUTH TARANAKI GAMES. PARK DEFEATS OPUNAKE, Playing at Opunake on Saturday, Park Club defeated Opunake by 67 to 60. The details are as under, Park players being mentioned first: Parkes, Brett, Htm-ell, Quin 22 v. Christie 19. HAWERA CLUB. On Saturday afternoon very keen interest was taken in the gold buttons match. The Diggers were challenged by a strong rink; nevertheless the holders had no difficulty in staving off the challenge, and won comfortably by 34 to 16. At the adjournment for afternoon tea on the ninth head: the holders (M. Squire) were 18 to the challengers’ (J. Foy) 3, which they had scored on the eighth head. After tea Squire put on 16 more points and Foy 13 points, leaving the holders victor s as stated. The teams were: Diggers—Ren wick, Dillon, Maslin, M. Squire. 34; challengers—Dale, McDonaald, Potter, J, Foy, 16.
