Mr. J. G. Osborne, of Wellington, and formerly of Hawera, is at present on a visit to Hawera, and is a guest at the- Commercial Hotel. On the termination or several years’ service with Messrs Bennett hnd Sutton, of Hawera, Mr. Vernon Spragg, who has received aii appointment with the firm of Messrs Curtis and Spragg, received the presentation of a suitcase from the staff of Messrs Bennett and Sutton on, Friday. On Saturday Mr. Spragg was the guest of honour at the coming of age party,' numbering some 40 participants, who- assembled at the residence of Mr. Spragg’s parents. Professor John Dickie, of Dunedin, lias been appointed first principal of the theological hall, states a Press Association message from Auckland, relating to business at the Presbyterian Assembly. . After long service on the bench in Wo') ing ton and other part® of New Zealand, Mr. IV. G. Riddell, principal magistrate in Wellington and second senior in tli-e Dominion, is retiring at the -end of December. He was educated at Dunedin, graduated at Otago University and -was admitted as a barrister and -solicitor in 1898. .He became a relieving magistrate:, and in 1907 was settled in Wellington, states a Wellington Press Association message.
