OTAKI RACING CLUB.
TO-MORROW’S PROSPECTS,
The fields at Otaki to-morrow promise to be very big, although it may he suggested that after the Different showings at The Levin meeting of many acceptors, their scratching at Otaki can be looked for. On the other hand,: there are many fresli horses engaged, which means that after allowing for a liberal number of withdrawals the fields in most races may be too large. The race track is in great order, and the meeting will be a good one. Of twenty-one acceptors for the Kapiti Hack Hurdles several appear to hold good prospects. Star.shell and I'anorama ran well on Saturday last, and the last-named may do better on the roomy track at Otaki. Kilia is another from whom improved form can he expected, and he may prove the very hardest to beat
Some good hacks are engaged in the Ivatihiku Handicap and the- event appears very open. No doubt Elysianor will be improved by liis race at Levin, and must bo marked dangerous, a remark that also applies to Mo u t-o a Treasury, a filly that proved equal to beating a field of good open class performers at the recent Levin meeting. Then the excellent form of Rorv Mor at the Masterton and Wellington meetings must be considered. Possibly Moutoa Treasury (if started) and Rory Mor will prove the most dangerous.
An. even class of field is engaged in the chief event, the Ling Memorial, and several runners will be solidly supported. Talisker won so well at the Levin meeting that, despite a rise in weight, lie will prove a formidable opponent. Others who may be prominent are Avro and Kilperon. No less than twenty-eight figure in the Pulii Maiden Plate, and as the big majority of them are of unknown quantity, backers may not invest- very heavily. Chief Singer showed some pace at the Mastertou meeting, and .if supported from the right quarter tomorrow is sure to run well. Of the Opposition Chopin has fair form of late, and Star Girl raced well enough at the Levin meeting to suggest her filling a place. Another great sized field (twentyfour) claim engagements in the Pali ik-o Hack Handicap. Argue won over a similar distance at Levin on Saturday last, but on the more lengthy course at Otaki may not quite see out the distance, but Baskier is one that may improve on a good showing made at the Levin meeting, and if induced to race reasonably straight (she bangs out badly 1 ) Lady Quex would be dangerous.
Class is not a strong feature of tlic Waitawa Handicap. On liis excellent showing at the Levin meeting last Saturday the Taranaki-owned Ridgemount isliould not lack support, but on the Otnki course, with its good .straight, Dobbin and Tvilbronsyth may race more prominently than was the ease on the “saucer” track at Levin.
Teh oka. was very disappointing at the Levin meeting, but as this three-year-old has been working well, lie may show his true form in the Taumanuku Handicap to-morrow. Of the other acceptors Tanagra cannot be discarded, and Me tell ns. from Fred Tilley’s Foretell stable, is one that _is liable to show winning form any time The Kereini Roera Handicap hears a very open appearance, and any of the twenty acceptors are possible winners. Royal Came has a good load, but, being well seasoned, ran be relied on to race well.
