SUMMER FAIR.

j MANAIA ANGLICAN CHURCH. OPENED THIS AFTERNOON. The Anglican Church Summer Fair was opened at the Alanaia town hall this afternoon, when a good number of people from many parts of the district were present. Rarely has the big hall looked prettier, for, with the attractive stalls round the sides and the coloured streamers radiating from all angles, converging in a Union Jack at the centre of the ceiling, the effect was most impressive. The general arrangements were carried out by a committee under the direction of the hon. secretary, Airs. C. H. Solomon, and everything went with a fine swing, business being brisk from the outset.

The three candidates for the popular man contest, and their supporters, all did their best, and much interest is being taken in the event. The crowning ceremony will take place to-morrow evening under Air. J. Ren wick’s direction .

There will be musical programmes both evenings, arranged by Air. Abbott. The stall-holders were as below : Produce.—Aimes. D. Alitcheil, Barley man, and Gamlin.

Cakes.—Aimes. C. R. Davies and C. A. L. Smith. Fancy.—Aimes. Solomon and Price. Apron. —Aimes. Hansen, Wells, and Clagiie. Plain. —Aliesdames Hobday and R. Smith.

Toy.—Airs Cassidy and Alias Cassidy. Sweets and Ice Cream. —Airs Abbott, Mii-ises' A. Young andl S. Lcwin. Tea, Room.— Ales dames Davis, Barlow. Travers and Vincent, and Aliss White. Bran Tub.—Airs Syrnes.

Flower girls, (button hoW? for candidates') . —Ali sse,s: B. Hobday. Joyoe Hansen. Flora, Walker. Betty Donald. Various side-shows will he run for the competitors both evenings, ais below:—• Skittle a'l’ey (Colonel Sutherland), hooplit (Air J. A. Hansen), love in a tub nail-driving and candle-lighting (Air T. Ar. Hair).
