v EVACUATION OF RHINELAND GERMANY’S POLICY. DR. STRESEMANN EXPLAINS . (Australian Press Assoclatiun—United Service.) Reccved 11.40 a.m. to-dav. BERLIN, Nov. 19. Speaking in the Reichstag for the first time since his breakdown in health in June, Dr. •Strescmann discussed the evacuation, disarmament and reparations problems, lie said 'that not only Germans, blit, many foreign observers considered th.it the retention of foreign troops in the Rhineland was a contradiction of the recent trend of international affairs, xlll the foreign Governments concerned had now agreed to open negotiations concerning the evacuation. Germany would unswervingly maintain that she Avas entitled to complete immediate evacuation, also that the evacuation must not depend on the solution of any of the other problems Germany’s rights were being violated so ron,g as acr claim was unfulfilled. “We cannot assume a political burden the effect of which will continue beyond the term of the pledge for reparation,’’ he declared. “We will not enter any financial engagements as the price of military evacuation. “Regarding disarmament, Germany’:, Geneva policy must continue, because i’, safeguards Germany’s return frontier. It is the only possible policy 111 view of Germany’s military helplessness. The news of the' Anglo-French compromise caused anxiety because it foreshadowed a possible new grouping of the Powers to Germany’s detriment.. We shall stand by the policy laid down by Herr Mueller and Count Bernstor.li at Geneva.”
