DEATH OF FEDERAL CANDIDATE. (United Tress Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 13. Major-General Forsyth, one of tlie 1 Nationalist candidates for the Senate, died last evening after a brief illness, from pneumonia following 1 idl ueuza. He was 61 years of age. A difficulty arises in connection with the election papers, on which his name was printed. Instructions will be given to the returning officer to delete it. As only two Government candidates remain for three vacant seats, Labour is assured of one. FEDERAL ELECTIONS. CANBERRA, Nov. 13. The number of voters on the Federal roll': for the election on Saturday total 3,457,-555. The women number 1,730,529 or 3530 more than the men. Only three- States. Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania show an excess of women. A BRAVE MINER. SYDNEY, Nov. 13. A minor named Joseph Bedford was overcome by black damp while sinking a coal shaft near Wallsend, Newcastle. A man named Thomas, Working nearby, was attracted by Bedford’s younger brother’s alarm. ITo went down the shaft, despite the deadly fumes. He was twice forced to come up owing to 1 their effects and the third time he managed to get a rope round Bedford and hauled him to the surface, but the rescued man wa, s dead.
