| PATEA AND EGMONT. j PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS. \ j HOW VOTES WERE CAST The Parliamentary elections of 1925 ' which took place on November 4= of that year resulted in the return as the Patea representative of the Reform canJ didate, Mr H. G. Dickie, who defeated the retiring Liberal member, Mr J. R. Corrigan, and in the re-election as the Egmont representative of the Reform candidate, Mr O. J. Hawken, who held the seat against the Liberal party challenger, Mr, W. C. Green. In January of the following year Mr Hawken was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Commissioner of State Porests. In both electorates the winning candidates secured substantial margins. Owing to alterations of the boundaries of the electorates the polling places i have undergone certain changes for today’s poll. In the eight elections including one by-election for the Patea seat during the last 23 years Reform Party nomin--1 cos have been returned on six and Liberal Party candidates on two occasions respectively. The most, successful candidate during that period was Mr G. V. Pearce, who was returned to Parliament as the Reform nominee at three successive elections. New polling places are (Cardiff, Carrington Boad, Dawson Falls, Kirihau, Koru, Bowgarth, Mahoe, Oakuira, Okato, Omata, Bowan, Tataraimaka, AVningongora, AVaiteika Boad. TWO PREMIERS. The Egmont electorate has the distinction of having sent two representatives who held the office of Premier. These were 'Sir Harry Atkinson (Con-
servative),' who was the Premier in J 1896-97 and Sir Thomas MacKenzie (Liberal) who was Premier for four months in 1912 prior to the accession to office of the Reform Government. As is the case with Patea eight elections also including a by-election has been j held for the Egmont seat during the! pact 23 years. A further coincidence I during that term is that the Egmont seat has also been won on six occasions by Reform Party candidates and twice by Liberals. Mr O. J.
