MR. WILKINSON’S NORMANBY MEETING.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —-Messrs' Wells’ and Gane’s letters in the “Star’.’ prompt me to write a few comments thereon. Before doing so, it seems peculiar that- the three consistent interjeetors at the meeting were 1 both those gentlemen and Mr Muggeridge, all of whom are not Egmont electors. " Messrs Wells ant; Muggeridge liail from Hon. Havvken’s locality, viz., Manutahi. Thus we see the Prime Minister, the Press, nurserymen, delegates, swamp engineers, departmental Nabobs, and other imported humans, all inspired with their good intention of helping’ the Minister for Agriculture. The information read out from the columns of the “Reform Newsletter” re getting votes from wheat growers and orchardists savours of Yankee graft and Russian Soviet rule, and is enough to make New Zealanders’ hang their heads in shame. f l he argument whether flour duties are five pounds or five shillings per .ton is not the vital point to my way of thinking. It is really the Minister’s action in daring to use the people s money to gain political power. The Minister, so fai. has not repudiated this stigma, anu even yet I hope; some explanation will b© given. Perhaps, it was written b\ one of his staff, which, of course, ties his hands. It is common comment that our present Cabinet look to then officers to keep the home fires burning and allow them too much liberty in the consulting room.—l am, etc., - J). J. HUGHES. Norinanby, Nov. 3, 1925.
