The Hawera Girl Guides Association intends holding a service for dedication of flags of the Hanger and Girl Guide companies in King lid ward Park on Sunday next (Armistice Day). Should the weather be unfavourable the service will be held in the Opera House. Lest Lsomo of the galah parakeets brought to New Zealand from Australia, where the bird is responsible for a considerable amount of damage, should escape and establish themsehes to the detriment of orchardists and farmers, the Minister of Internal Affairs lias decided that in future permits will be issued only for the importation of male birds of the species and under strict restrictions as to captivity. At a recent gathering of the employees of the Duke of Portland at Welbeck Abbey, there were 60 persons with 40 or more years’ service to their credit, five of them having served the duke for 60 years.
