EXGLISH PLAYER'S AT ROTORUA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ROTORUA, Xov. 7. The English tennis team played exhibition .games against local Maori and pnkeha players (before a largo gathering of the public: Six matches were played, the Englishmen winning all without the loss of a set. 'Sparkling tennis was witnessed the local players being outclassed by the brilliant visitors. A special feature was the exhibition in the doubles between Austin 'and Gregory and Higgs .•uni Collins. Details are as follow: — 'Singles. Austin beat. .Tones, 6—o, 6—2. Gregory beat E. Howell, 6 —o, 6 —2. Collins beat Ehau, 6—l, 6 —l. Higgs beat Tiirei, 6 —l, 6 —l. Doubles. Austin and Gregory beat Jones and Ehau, 6—2, 6—2. Higgs and Collins beat Ehau and Turci, 6—l, 6 —o. MATAPU COURTS. OPENING TOURNAMENT * In ideal weather the season’s play was opened on the Matapu tennis courts yesterday. There was an attendance of over 30 visitors and players, the latter engaging in a Yankee tournament, for which prizes were generously donated by the club president (Mr J. O’Sullivan), and won by Mrs C. Paterson and Mr B-. Pa'terson. Afternoon tea wag served in the Matapu Hall, during a short interlude by lady supporters and members of the 'club.
