In reply to Victoria’s first innings' score or i 64, England made 486. in their second strike Victoria had reaefied 135 without loss when stumps were drawn. Tire attendance was 22,959, and receipts £1389. For the three days the gates have totalled £3026. Teh weather was muggy and threatening, but the wicket Was in good order for thj resumption of the match. Woodfull was unwell, and Ryder was in charge. Hendren made free with the bowling, and scored 12 off one over by Ebeling. Fifty were added in 35 minutes. White was stolid, and lasted 68 minutes. He hit one four. Ironmonger secured two wickets with successive balls. Hendrem made his hundred century in first-class cricket. He was smartly thrown out from cover by Scaife. His innings lasted 2 hours 14 minutes, and he hit 11 fours. Four wickets fell for the addition of 25 runs. Light rain fell during lunch, and the wicket Was covered. Sawdust was used on the resumption. Chapman hit the bowling freely after lunch, and with Larwood 50 runs were added in 18 minutes. The bowlers were hampered by the greasy ball. Four hundred came up in 6 hour's 19 minutes. Chapman scored 50 in 52 minutes. He gave a grand display, and his innings lasted 68 minutes. He hit one six and six fours. His partnership with Larwood added 93 in 50 minutes. Larwood, also gave a nice display, and scored 50 in 62 minutes, including a. good leg hit for six off Hartkopf. J jar wood gave a hot chance at 72 to Hartkopf off his own bowling-. Larwood was at the wickets 93 minutes, and hit six fours and one six.
Victoria’s second innings commenced at eight minutes past four. Hendry was missed at the first ball of the innings off Tate by the wicketkeeper, the hall going off the glove to Mead at first .slip, who also dropped it. Ten minutes’ adjournment was necessitated by rain. The light was bad when the. game was resumed, hut play went on for some time in a light drizzle, the liowlers being at a. disadvantage with the greasy ball. Botli batsmen were batting well, and scored 50 in 32 minutes. Hendry made 50 in 57 minutes. The 100 came up for the partnership in 70 minutes. Ponsford. scored' 50 in; 82 minutes.
