LAVA STREAM A MILE WIDE.
FORESTS DEVASTATED
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) Received 11.40 a.in. to-day. ROME, Nov. 4. Following heavy rainstorms, Mount Etna has become active. From the crater of 6500 feet made by the 1865 eruption, a lava stream a mile wide is advancing on the village of Saint Allis, devastating the forests en route, century old trees flaring up like matchwood. Isolated farms on. the mountain side have been evacuated. Many inhabitants of the threatened village are ready to flee at any moment.
LAVA STREAMS SIX MILES LONG. ROME, Nov. 4. Mt. Etna’s lava streams are now six miles long. The whole of the two thousand inhabitants have evacuated Saint Alfco. . . ,
