A Norwegian steamer, Finnanger, carrying 13,000 tons of Soviet oil from Britain, grounded at Fulta Point in tlie River Hooghly. The vessel took an alarming list and to save the ship and cargo, the captain jettisoned three thousand tons of oil valued at £40,000. Villagers flocked to the riverside to collect the oil. The shipping has been warned of the danger.
