A SCOTTISH CELEBRATION.
HALLOWE’EN AT TE KIRI. At Te Kiri hall there was a. large assemblage of residents of the district and other parts, including a, party irom Hawera, for the Hallowe’en celebrations under the aegis of the 'Scottish Society of the district. There were well over two hundred on the floor, which was taxed to its utmost m the dancing. The evening was in every way successful, and the result gratifying to all concerned in the work of the society. The Auroa Ripe Band was present and helped very largely towards the success achieved.
During the evening Mr. John McKinnon and Miss Johnson contributed songs, Air. E. K. Cameron sleight ol hand exhibition with cards, Mr. James E. Campbell anecdotes, and Mr. John Renwick an amusing character sketch. The liaggis, with all due solemnity and fitting ceremony, was borne in to the festive board, Pipers Langlands and Sturgeon heading the procession and playing appropriate music, and the chieftain recited the familiar Ode. The general arrangements were in the hands of an executive committee under the direction of the chieftain (Mr. D. AI. Holmes), Air. N. McKinnon. and Air. C. Wemyss (lion, secretary), and these left little to be desired' For the Highland schottische Ripen Ross (Opunake) played the pipes, and Coburn’s orchestra contributed the music for the dances, extras being played by Aliss Smith and Air. .1. Ren wick." The M’sC. were AJessrs J. G. Williamson, N. AtoKinnon, and R. Ferguson.
