HAWERA METHODIST CHOIR.

CONCERT AT ELTHAAI

It was much to be regretted, from more* than a financial point pf view, that wet, boisterous conditions militated against a full attendance at t.ie concert rendered by,.the Hawera Methodist Choir in the Eithain Town Hall on: Friday night. Those who did brave the elements were regaled with an excellent programme of a widely varied nature, each item of which earned unstisted applause. Without- exception, recalls were vociferously demanded and readily acceded to under the baton of Mr H C, A. Fox, the concerted work of the choir, particularly in anthems, •was a. source of pleasure, each number bearing the stamp of outstanding merit. Messrs J- D. McQuin and E. Paccy were in excellent voice and scored a distinct triumph over the generally admitted faulty acoustic properties of the hall. A no less pleasing feature was furnished by a fine range of instrumental solos*. Messrs H. N. Lester (violin-cello) and R. Swan (cornet) quite captivating the audience, while two very youthful performers in Masters. D*. Ritwson (clarinet) and L. (violin) were equally successful in evoking applause; in his opening _ selection front “Mignon” (with variations) tnc former maintained an entrancing tone and was note* perfect. The contributions of Misses M. Instone (elocutionist) and W. Mills (soloist) were also much appreciated. Apologies were made by the Rev. G. S. Em j nit;, for the unavoidable absence of Miss D. Grindrod and ATr J. Renwick. Alucli of the success of the* delightful programme was due to the acrbnipanistes, Misses Rogers and D.' Joll. . Tile following programme was submitted: — , . .
