CONTINUOUS COMPETITIONS,

The Stratford Bowling Clul> is this season making a departure from the practice of holding numerous club competitions, and- apart , front the championship contests ini senior, B grade and colt sections, there will be only two continuous competitions. For the purpose of these competitions it is necessary to classify all playing

members and to allot them -permanent handicaps. In the handicap pairs competition the system of coupling senior and junior players has been abolished', and couples will be chosen by drawing names from a box. Dates of progress will be fixed, so that there will' bo no delay in reaching finality. The other continuous competition is new to Stratford;, and is called the percentage fours competition. All members have been classified as leads, seconds, thirds or skips, and the competition will apply to all full xink> games played on Thursdays and Saturdays, including banner and 1 interclub matches when, so decided by the committee.

The method is simple. No matter how the personnel of a four is made up, each man in ai rink will mark a win of a loss against* his own name on a) large chart in the pavilion. At the end of the season the four highest leads, -seconds, thirds and skips will be ballotted into terms and a , semi-final and final played to deter- _ mine the champion rink of the club. The method . off? (reckoning highest players in each classification will be on a percentage basis, so the number of games played by individual members will not affect his average number of wins. The committee has laid it down that- in order to qualify for the semi-finals a player must take part in 66 per cent, of the notified • games. , . . . * An. advantage of this competition is that if a number of players as- . semble on the green with no particular match in view, teams can be made up bv extracting, numbers ' from a box, , and the gante will count in the com--/;* petition.
