A deputation representing the Trade Union Congress and affiliated unions waited on Air. William Joynson Hicks, the Home Secretary, to- urge improved' factory legislation, preventing night baking and undue overtime, and providing for better washing of clothes and drying accommodation, a weekly rest period, and a woman to attend to injured women, where a male attendant was undesirable. Sir William Joynson Hicks promised that if the present Government was returned after the election and amending- bill would be early introduced.
