NORMANDY ATTRACTION.

ANNUAL SALE OF WORK

The annual sale of work, organised in aid of the funds of the Normanby Presbyterian Church, was .this- afternoon conducted in the Normanby Town; HaK. This useful fixture, inaugurated] upwards of twenty years ago, 'lias annually increased in popularity and productiveness' until it was now looked upon as one of the most important institutions in the township. A special feature was the interest and earnestness displayed in the success of the function by the younger members of the community. an instance of which was furnished in the personnel and recorded financial results of the “Busy Bees’ ” fancy goods stall, which was operated entirely by a bevy of young ladies. This stall last year returned a profit of £6 and the enterprising, optimistic board of control was quite convinced that this year’s stock, valued at close upon £lO, would; be cleared to the last article.. Upon entering the hall, the visitor was impressed with the endless variety and excellent- quality of the goods on offer, and was frankly puzzled as to the stall upon which to bestow patronage. The cakes stall presented an en tieing array of home-made jam sandwiches. sponge rolls, iced and fruit cakes, scones and pastry, compelling, perhaps, a degree of more fixed and longing attention than the prosaic produce department- with its well-loaded tables of eggs, butter, fruit, vegetables, home-made pickles, jams and sauces. The lay-out and conduct of all the stalls was under the supervision of Mrs H. G. Fletcher, whose past- experience in this direction produced a smoothlyworking whole. Those in charge of the various stalls are : “Busy Bees.” —Misses P. Gane, B. Grant. R. and A. Fletcher. Cakes.—Mrs A. Thrush and! Miss M. Palmier. Produce. —Ales dames E. Grant and D. Frei.*

Tea Room.—Mesdames P. Kellett (m charge), W. Bewan, A, Galloway, P. Linn. J. Archbold and G. Galloway. The sale was officially opened! at- 2 p.m. bv the Rev. H. J. Fletcher, who extended a weoomo to those- presentand expressed the hope that the t unction would be a social and financial sueCBS'S*. During the evening -session, which extends from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m an air of jollity will be imparted to the proceedings by a round of competitions, including clothes pegging (for men), naii- - IrTving. candle-lighting, ninepins, etc. More than a mere word of praise is due to "the ladies in charge of the fica and refreshment-room, the 'afjl-import-nnt department which has done as much, if not more, than anything else to popularise the annual sale of work.
