OUR NATIVE FLORA.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—You have been good enough before to-dav to publish a protest by me against the useless slaughter ot our native ferns. Last night I peeped into a building being made ready tor some gay party, and there I saw towering" above paper gew-gaws two lordly mamaku tree ferns slaughtered to make a show for -a- few brief hours. Year by year the process of denuding our countryside of these beantifnl ohjeets is going on, and our landscape near town is being deprived- of one of its most distinctive characteristics. Ferns will soon be a thing of the past except in inaccessible and invisible £f>ots. When, sir, will we learn that this sort of thing doe® not pay?—l am, etc.., NATURE LOVER.
