Mr Walter tSyme left by mail train for Wellington this morning on a short business trip. Among the guests at present staying at .the White Hart. Hotel are Mr and Mrs W. O. Marks and Mr and Mrs F. L. G ribbon, all of Auckland.
Messrs T. A. Winks, J. R. Corrigan and J. B. Murdoch were -passengers by mail train this morning for Wellington on business in connection with the National Dairy Association and the Dairy Control Board.
Mr. A. C. Rowson, of London, who lias been in Hawera in connection with the dairy industry, left by car this morning, accompanied by Messrs Thomas Gray and S. A. Chisholm on a visit of inspection of the Alton and Waverley dairy factories. Mr. Rowson then proceeds to Palmerston North on a tour of the Manawatu district.
Mx Tj. Tryc, who was severely 'injured through ©oil lading with a dog in Okaiawa a month ago. was able to leave the Hawera. Hospital on Monday. He can now get about with the aid of a stick, but it will probably be a month or so before be is able to resume work (writes our Okadawoi correspondent). The Earl of Orford, who lias come to New Zealand for health reasons, has purchased for £12,000 a residential property at Manuiewa, comprising; a iioiii.se of nine rooms in grounds of 14 acres. He will go' into residence there next, month (says an Auckland Ptas-s Association message). y At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Coal Miners’ Association held in Wellington yesterday, a presentation of a valuable solid silver salver was ma-dp to the president, Col, W. D. Holgate. in appreciation of his service during four years of office, says a Wellington Press Association message.
Passengers who arrived by the Male ui a, on Monday elated that Mr Za-n© Grey, the American novelist, and party, redding- on the writer’s palatial yacht, were at Papeete when'the Makura called a week ago. They were given to understand that the party was to- spend a few more weeks m the group, and wouScl' come on to New Zeaalnd about the end of next month, when Mr Grey intended to 1 fish at Tauranga, and in tins Bay of Islands. Mr Grey’s yacht is said to bo a beautiful craft, replete with every luxury, iso that he and ihiis friends can enjoy the- glamour of the Islands without having to put up with the somisw-hat primitive accommodation available in some of them. On the ©vie of hi® retirement, the Archbishop of Canterbury received the freedomt of the City of London. Sir Adrian Pollock, in presenting the_ scroll in a gold casket,, said -the Archbishop had been the trusted- friend of three sovereigns -and the wise counsellor to whom many, both great and ismall’,, had taken theiir trouble®. When modern history wais written it would record ■none who had rendered'- greater services to mankind. Dr; David.son, in responding, said both he and the Church owed much to liis wife.
